 [Image Heavy] Simple recoloring tutorial

The following tutorial will teach you how to recolor an outfit with 3 programs – Microsoft Paint, Paint.net, and the GIMP. You can find paint.net here and GIMP here. This tutorial will teach you how to use these 3 programs in order to recolor an outfit.


For use with all three programs:

Step 1.

Open up body shop: Start>All Programs>The Sims 2 (latest EP/SP you have)>Body Shop.

Step 2.

Click on Create Parts > New Project > Create Clothing

Step 3.

For this tutorial, we will be recoloring a dress. Find the following dress in body shop.

Step 4.

Click the Export button

Step 5.

Name the project. You can name it anything, but you cannot have spaces; To have a space, insert and underscore ( _ ).

Step 6.

Open the folder that Body Shop says.

From this point on, follow the steps that align with the program you want to use.

MS PAINT

Step 7a.

Right click on the file that says: body~stdMatBaseTextureName. Choose Open With… and choose Paint.

And you’ll get this screen:

Step 8a.

To recolor this outfit, select the select tool and select the whole dress except the shoes.

Then right click and choose “Clear Selection”. Then fill with a color of your choice with the fill tool (paint bucket).

Step 9a.

Then press CTRL-S and open body shop and press the refresh button. See how you like your outfit now, and then edit if you want to. Then click the export button.

The outfit is in your game now.

GIMP

Step 7b.

Right click on the file that says: body~stdMatBaseTextureName. Choose Open With… and choose GIMP. You may have to browse for it if doesn’t appear there.

Step 8b.

Then you’ll get this screen:

Step 9b.

Select the Rectangular Select Tool and select the whole dress, except for the shoes, and press Delete on your keyboard. Then fill with the color you want.

Step 10b.

Press CTRL-S and press refresh in body shop and see your changes. If you like them, press export.

PAINT.NET

Step 7c.

Right click on the file that says: body~stdMatBaseTextureName. Choose Open With… and choose Paint.net

Step 8c.

You’ll then get this screen

Step 9c.

Go to Adjustments>Hue/Saturation. You’ll get this screen:

Step 10c.

Choose the settings you want and then pick OK.

Then press CTRL-S. Then press refresh in Body Shop and then export to game.
